Meet the Staff

Rev Charles G. Hein

Everything you may have wondered about your new Rector but were afraid to ask. Full name: Charles Gregory Hein (has always been called Greg). Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia (known as Wild Wonderful West By God Virginia to the natives). Birthday is October 27, 1955. Attended Marshall University in Huntington and graduated in 1977 with a degree in psychology. Was married in November 1977 to Alice. Attended St. Luke's School of Theology at The University of the South, Sewanee from 1979 - 1982. (Yes three years is the length of a seminary degree). My son Charles Maxwell was born December 30, 1979.
I served my first parish (St. Stephen's) as deacon and priest in Beckley, West Virginia from 1982 until 1984. My first parish as Rector was Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Stateburg, SC from 1984 until 1992. I was Rector of St. Peter's, Bon Secour, AL from 1992 until 1996 and was the Executive Director of Beckwith Camp and Conference Center from 1996 until 2000. And I served as the Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Kirkwood, MO from 2000 until 2006. Now I am very happy to be the Rector of St. Jude's Episcopal Church, Niceville, FL.
I was divorced in 2003. July 23, 2006 I married Cindy and have never been happier. Her daughters Chyanne (14) and Morgan (11) live with us. In my years in the ordained ministry I have served on diocesan councils, standing committees, commissions on ministry, board of directors for two different diocesan conference centers and various other things. I was trained as a stewardship consultant many years ago and I served as the ecumenical officer for the Diocese of South Carolina for five years.
While I serve at St. Jude's, I would like to once again be involved at the diocesan level and will encourage lay leaders of the parish to do the same. I think that the Rector of a parish should be involved in the parish, the community and the diocese. Once I get my family settled in, I hope to visit the members of St. Jude's in their home so that they can get to know me and I can get to know them and have a sense of where people live.
I hope that people will be willing to talk to me about their concerns for the parish, the community, the diocese and the national Church. I won't have all the answers, but unless I know what the concerns are I can't begin to address the issues. My hope is to help this part of the Body of Christ to grow spiritually and in numbers. Together we can find the vision that God has for us and can move to fulfill it.
