St. Jude’s Outreach Activities

 

St. Jude’s Sewing Guild Outreach

             Sewing Guild makes various items such as quilts and clothing for needy children which they donate to elementary schools, hospitals, and children’s organizations locally and throughout the world.

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast Group Outreach

            The Men’s Fellowship group supports outreach and inreach programs with their time and funds raised from pancake breakfast events and donations.  Activity Coordinator:  Joe Morgan 803-3500; morganh@fwbnet.com

 

Supper on Saturday (SOS)

This program continues to provide hot and cold meals to over 1000 less fortunate families in our area and is a coordinated effort between Niceville churches. St. Jude’s volunteers deliver meals on the 4th Saturday of each month.  We meet at St. Jude’s parking lot at 11:45 and are usually done by 1:30.  Activity Coordinator (AC): Doug Smith at 897-6613 or dssmith247@cox.net .

 

Meals for Opportunity Place Homeless Shelter

This organization provides short term shelter, food, and access to support programs for women and families from Okaloosa and Walton Counties.  St. Jude’s provides an evening meal for about 30 residents at Opportunity Place on the first Wednesday of each month. We provide food from our Wednesday evening supper at St. Jude’s.  Our volunteers pick up the meals at St. Jude’s at 4:00 PM for delivery to Opportunity Place by 5:00.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets. 

St. Jude’s collects food for these baskets to make a complete dinner with a gift coupon that can be used to buy a ham or turkey.  St. Judes’ volunteers deliver the baskets to families designated by Niceville Sharing & Caring. Angel Tree Christmas Presents. 

The Angel Tree has ornaments with ages of children  and their requests for clothes or toys. Angel Tree ornaments are made by our children’s Sunday school classes and placed on the Angel Tree. Members of the congregation take ornaments and return them with a wrapped gift that matches that requested on the ornament. Weekly donations to the Niceville Sharing & Caring food pantry.

We collect food donations at each church service and deliver them to Sharing & Caring the following week.

“Tools for School”.

St. Jude’s collects back to school supplies for those less fortunate as part of this Niceville Sharing & Caring program. Activity Coordinator: Frank McCarty 803-2809 or frankmccarty@cox.net

 

Blood Mobile

St. Jude’s hosts the Blood Mobile several times per year and provides a complimentary breakfast for those donating blood.  Activity Coordinator (AC): Father Greg 678-7013; ghein626@aol.com

 

United Thank Offering (UTO)  http://episcopalchurch.org/uto

These offering are used to support various missions and ministries of the Episcopal Church around the world. St. Jude’s provides UTO boxes and envelopes twice a year for collection of these offerings. Activity Coordinator: Dottie Doherty 897-4420 or (ded503@cox.net)

 

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) (http://www.er-d.org/)

This is our own Episcopal organization that enables us to provide assistance to many people at the regional, national and international level. A portion of our St. Jude’s contribution to the Diocese goes to ERD.

Operation Christmas Child. (http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/).

This is an evangelism and outreach project in which you fill a shoebox with small gifts to be sent to a child somewhere in the developing world. It is run by Samaritan’s Purse which is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. This is the first year St. Jude’s been involved in this project.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life (http://main.acsevents.org/site)

Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and other programs of the American Cancer Society. In the past St. Jude’s participated with various pre-event fund raisers and a team and concession tent at the event.  Activity Coordinator:  Volunteer needed

 

Walk for Alzheimer’s

Members of St. Jude’s participate in the Walk for Alzheimer’s which supports Alzheimer’s research.  Activity Coordinator:  Father Greg 678-7013; ghein626@aol.com

 

Children’s Neighborhood  (http://www.childrenincrisisfl.org). 

Managed by Children in Crisis (CIC) this facility provides an emergency shelter for young children, and group foster care homes. St. Jude’s has supported this activity in the past with fund raisers for special activities for the children. The St. Jude’s Sewing Guild currently supports them with handmade quilts for each child. Emerald Coast Autism Society (http://www.autism-society.org/)

For minimum cost, St. Jude’s is leasing a space to the area coordinator of the Emerald Coast Autism Society which is a non-profit organization that provides support to the families of children in the Autism spectrum.

Emerald Coast Autism Center (www.ecautismcenter.org)

St. Jude’s helped establish the Emerald Coast Autism Center by providing classroom facilities at minimum cost.  It is currently conducting a capital campaign to fund a new building at Northwest Florida State College.  Some St. Jude’s parishioners currently support this activity with contributions and time. Jr. EYC Outreach

Pet Shelter donations - Pet food and supplies are collected by the Jr. EYC for a no kill pet shelter.

Coats for Kids - Coats are collected by the Jr. EYC for less fortunate children in our area.

Relay for Life – In the past Jr EYC has assisted with fund raisers for Relay for life.

In the past at Christmas, St. Jude’s provided toiletries and small gifts in a decorated shoe box for the needy at Waterfront Mission in Fort Walton Beach.  Currently parishioners support the mission with donations of items for their thrift store and cash donations. Student Tutors- Specific students meet with their tutors in St. Jude’s spaces after school.
